Y’all gon’ make me act a FOOL! Up in here, up in here!DMX, Party Up in Here
Sorry guys, but every time I think of the world ‘foolish’ my 90’s pal DMX starts up a party in my brain. (And now I bet he’s startin’ one up in yours
Anyhoo, lately I have been thinking about how much my life, my choices, and my beliefs don’t resemble those that the world would pick for me. For
Take those and then throw into the mix that I am a Christian willing to put God’s will above mine, and I’m pretty much a swirling dumpster fire of foolishness within the standards of most of my generation.
It has taken me YEARS to pull back the curtain I tried to conform behind, ditch the self doubt, and be who God made me to be (dumpster fire and all). You see guys, God didn’t create me (or you!) to conform to this world or to the beliefs and paths of others. He created us to follow His will and live with abandon (and sometimes that requires we look like a fool in the eyes of the world).
Y’all know who else undoubtedly felt like a fool in the eyes of the world? Like half the Bible.
Noah built a boat on dry land.
Moses told a pharaoh that God was going to send a ton of plagues out of nowhere.
David stood up to a giant with a pebble.
Joshua set out to take down a huge wall with a trumpet.
Ruth pursued her mother in law instead of a better life.
Mary walked around a barefoot and pregnant virgin when nobody believed her story.
Joseph chose to stay engaged to Mary while she was barefoot and pregnant.
Elizabeth was a pregnant
Esther pursued the king unannounced when it was against the law.
Jesus publicly proclaimed he was GOD.
Our friends above teach us that it is OK to have an unpopular worldview and to make the choices God is calling you to even if nobody else understands them.
In fact, I believe that in order to truly follow Christ and live out God’s word your life SHOULD be uncomfortable and embarrassing at times in the eyes of the world. If you are following God’s plan for your life you WILL be required to take an unpopular stand at some point. God’s ways have not and will never be the ways of the world and trusting in the ways and knowledge of man over that of the Bible ain’t never gonna work out.
You were created neither for conformity nor for the comfort and approval of the world. Instead, you were created and marked for glory in the eyes of Christ and Christ alone (i.e. not the eyes of your neighbors, coworkers, and friends).
If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me firstJohn 15:18-19
.Ifyou belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world…
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.Romans 12:2
Friends, I am not in any way saying to say adios and abandon the world or to set yourself apart and take a holier than thou approach to life. We were created to be a light to the lost, a shoulder to the hurting, and a friend to the lonely and to turn the eyes of the wandering to the cross. (Judgement of how others live their lives shouldn’t be a part of your equation either.) Instead, I am saying that allowing yourself to be washed in His blood daily will require you to make some hard choices for your life and beliefs that probably won’t be popular ones. And that’s OK. And that’s expected of you.
With so much political and emotional turmoil surrounding us as Christians, moms, wives, single women, homeschoolers, public schoolers, career women, and (insert life choices here), I am praying that you can take a few moments and reflect on the paths in which you place your feet. Are you living out loud without shame? Or are you afraid to act a fool up in here when God calls you to? God has given you a brain to evaluate the words of those around you for truth, fingers to flip through His word, a soul for the Holy Spirit to live in.
Let your dumpster fire flag fly high sister and leave conformity to the birds.
